About

I am a senior hydrogeology major at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. I will be graduating May, 2018. Along with my major I am also obtaining a Water Resources Certificate and a Geospatial Certificate. This past January I spent three weeks in New Mexico at Field Camp improving my geologic mapping skills.

This past summer, I worked with the Water Resources division of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. During my internship with the Minnesota DOT, I inspected storm sewer infrastructure, inspected infiltration basins, conducted infiltration tests using the Modified Phillip-Dunne method, and monitored water table well levels. This experience allowed me to apply my course work, especially ArcMap and improved my skills with a handheld GPS unit. During the summer of 2016, I had the opportunity to work for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as a Watercraft Inspection Intern.

I am involved in student-faculty collaborative research at UW- Eau Claire, as well. I am conducting sequential extraction analyses of trace metals on a series of sandstones from West-Central Wisconsin to determine the mobility of those trace metals. This project involves many hours in the lab working with the precise measurement of chemicals and requires consistency from week to week in order to provide valid results. I have presented my research at the American Water Resource Association conference in Elkhart, Wisconsin, last March, and at UW-Eau Claire’s Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity. I will be presenting my sequential extraction research project at the North-Central GSA meeting in Ames, Iowa, and at the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the coming months.

Beyond coursework and research, I also work in the UW- Eau Claire chemistry stockroom as a lab assistant. This job has not only helped pay for college expenses, but has given me more experience in the field of chemistry.

After graduation I will be looking to enter the work force in a career as an environmental consultant or any other career that will allow me to continue my interests in hydrogeology.
